W.H. Nelson Raises Champion Chickens

W.H. Nelson of Gantts Quarry who is raising White Leghorns, is making quite a record with his pen No. 60 in the laying contest at Auburn.

This pen of Leghorns are running third in the contest, and are ___imed to be one of the finest ___s of Leghorns ever exhibited in Alabama.

Mr. Nelson entered the poultry business as a side line, but has proven quite a success, and it is ___ that he intends enlarging his __ps and going into the business on a larger scale.

Dr. T.E. Reeves Dead

Dr. T.E. Reeves died at his residence at Walco Camps, about _ miles south of the city, Tuesday morning at 4 o’clock. His remains were taken in charge by the Howard Undertaking Parlors and prepared and shipped to Lineville where interment will take place this afternoon (Wednesday 3:30).

Dr. Reeves was well known in the city, having practiced for the Wisconsin-Alabama Lumber Company for near two years.

He leaves his wife and several children to mourn his departure.

Local Automobile Agency receives Solid Car

Last week the Vardaman-Peace Cheverolet Company received a solid car load of new modeled Cheverolet’s. This is the first car load of new model Cheverolets to be received in the state and Messers. Vardaman and Peace are to be congratulated in receiving such prompt service with their company.

T.E. Collins of Weogufka was attending business in the city on Saturday.

Misses Linda Pace and Chloe ___tle, who have been the guests of Mrs. Will A. Moody left Tuesday for their home in Birmingham.

Miss Hellen Harrington of Chicago is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Harrington.

Tom Barns of Talladega was attending business in the city Saturday.

Miss Lee Mae Palmer has returned from a visit to Opelika.

J.C. Stanford of Talladega who is a candidate for the office of Talladega County was shaking hands with friends in the city Wednesday.

Griffin Synott of the Vanderbilt University is the guest of Toby Washam.

Mrs. W.M. Lane has returned from a month’s visit to her daughter, Mrs. Jud. D. DeBardelaben in Birmingham.

Mr. Thad. W. Gordon of the Campbell-Ewald Advertising Company of Detroit, Mich. was in the city Monday aiding the Vardaman-Peace Cheverolet Company in mapping out their advertising campaign for the year.

Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Persons of Alexander City were visitors in the city Friday.

Mrs. W.T. Porter left Saturday morning for an extended visit to various points of interest in Florida.

Schelvin (Shelvin) Rock News

We are having some very bad weather at the beginning of a New Year.

Our school is progressing nicely although our teacher has a good number of pupils.

Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Standly were visiting Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Butts Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Ocie Hosey left the first of the week for Georgia where he will take up a position with the Winfield Saw Mill Co.

Mr. Willie and Jean Green, of Tuscaloosa, are visiting relatives in this Community.

Mr. Squire Martin, and family of Waco, Texas are visitors of this community.

Messers Curtis Morris and Jasper Butler motored to Mignon Sunday afternoon.

We have new neighbors in our community, Mr. and Mrs. Phill Robinson of Coosa County.

Mr. and Mrs. Ocie Hosey were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hosey last week.

Holly Spring News

We all had a fine Christmas and Santa Claus did not forget any one.

We are sorry to say that Mr. Jess Morris has been on the sick list, but is improving.

We enjoyed the dance and a fine fruit supper at Mr Jimmie Morris’ Saturday night.

Mr. Fonzer Varner was the guest of Miss Virgil Blankingship Saturday afternoon.

We had a dance at Mr. Clint Robinson’s Christmas night. It was enjoyed by all who attended.

Misses Daisy and Velma Morris were at the fruit supper Saturday night.

Misses Viola ad Exar Robinson was the guests of Miss Virgil Blankingship last week.

Miss Ke__nie Morris and brother Curtis is the guest of Miss Virgil Blankingship.

Mr. and Mrs. Alphie Deason of Gantts Quarry was visiting the latters parents Mr. and Mrs. Jess Morris Christmas.

Mr. Claudie Morris and Virgil Blankingship made music for dance Saturday night.

Mr. Jackson Joiner and family motored to Mr. John Morris’ Friday.

We all had a nice time at the dance Friday night at Mr. Henery Joiners.

Mr. and Mrs. Mims Roberts of Talladega were the week-end guests of Mrs. H.M. Roberts.

The many friends of Miss Ernesta Castleman will be glad to know that she is improving after a very serious operation for appendicitis.

J.C. Standford Announces For Sheriff

In this issue of The Advance appears the announcement of J.C. Standford of Talladega for the office of Sheriff of Talladega County.

Mr. Standford is well known throughout the county having been chief of police of the City of Talladega a number of years and has previously made the race for sheriff of the county.

Russell News

Messers Carl and Bert Zeiglar were in Sylacauga Saturday.

John Pearson made a business trip to Talladega Springs Saturday.

Isaac and John Green motored to Sylacauga Wednesday to see friends who are visiting from Florida.

Marvin Pearson is learning to play the guitar very fast. He will soon be able to play some selections at school.

Jack Talton of Florida has been visiting relatives here recently.

Despite the cold weather last week we had two good fox races. Some 25 or 30 dogs were in the races.

There is to be an oyster supper at Russell’s School house next Saturday night January 23, for the benefit of the school. Everybody is invited.

Judge E.A. Hammett of Talladega was a visitor in the city Friday.

Woodmen Elect Officers

The regular annual election of the Woodmen of the World was held at their lodge on Second Street Friday night of last week the following officers being elected for the ensuing year:

C.H. Lipsey, P.C.; J.H. Moore, C.M.; W.T. Fields, A.L.; E.F. Conville, Banker; J.T. Erwin, Clerk; W.H. Conville, Escort; W.R. Cleghorn, Watchman; J.C. Thomas, Secretary; T.L. Owings, Physician; Clem ___man, A.D. Summers, and E.J. Drawhorn, Auditors.

There is much interest being taken by the members of this lodge, and much enthusiam is being shown. The meeting nights are on Friday of each week.
